Preparing your Land for the changing seasons.

As we say goodbye to a long and dry summer, the countryside begins to change. Morning dew, cooler temperatures and general wetter weather marks the seasonal change. This brings a new set of jobs for landowners, estate managers and homeowners.

Autumn is an ideal time to look over your green spaces and get an idea of the work which is required to keep everything looking its best!

Checking your trees.

Look out for:

  • Dead, damaged or hanging branches

  • Signs of disease or decay

  • Trees growing close to buildings, roads or other structures

  • Areas of exposed or damaged roots

  • Trees that have become unstable following high winds

Early attention to potential problems can help prevent damage and make the land safer throughout the winter.

Hedges and boundaries.

Autumn is a busy time for hedge maintenance. Once the main nesting season has passed, many hedges can be trimmed back and brought under control before winter.

It is also a good opportunity to inspect fences, gates and other boundaries for damage and make any necessary repairs before the wetter months arrive.

Clearing and Maintaining Grounds

Fallen leaves, branches and other seasonal debris can quickly build up across gardens, estates and rural land.

Keeping paths, driveways, drains and access routes clear helps maintain safe access and prevents leaves and debris from blocking drainage systems.

Autumn can also be a good time to tackle overgrown areas, remove unwanted vegetation and prepare ground for work planned during the winter months.

Prepare for Wet Weather

With heavier rainfall comes the increased risk of standing water, erosion and flooding.

Check drainage channels, ditches, culverts and watercourses and make sure they are free from unnecessary blockages. Areas prone to flooding or waterlogging should be monitored before the wetter weather arrives.

Good land management now can help reduce problems later in the season.
